Looking For Eco-Friendly Products on Amazon?
There are certainly more environmentally friendly shops other than Amazon to source your eco-friendly products. With that being said, here at BirchSalt we think there is no shame in how or where you start. Any first step, is a step in the right direction. If you’re curious of some fantastic eco-friendly shops, here are some I use below!
- Package Free Shop (a personal favorite of mine)
- Etsy
- Marley’s Monsters
- Lush
Books
First off, I’m a big believer that knowledge is power. I couldn’t give a recommended list without books! Additionally, it is important to emphasize that you do NOT have to purchase a product in order to live a greener lifestyle. In fact, I would recommend to try to see what you could reuse or repurpose in your own home today!
Here are just a few of the wonderful informational books out there to help you on your sustainability journey (I’m on my own journey as well!).
- Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying Your Life by Reducing Your Waste by Bea Johnson.
- There Is No Plant B: By Mike Berners-Lee
- 40 Projects for Building Your Backyard Homestead: A Hands-on, Step-by-Step Sustainable-Living Guide (Creative Homeowner) Fences, Chicken Coops, Sheds, Gardening, and More for Becoming Self-Sufficient
- Back To Basics: A Complete Guide To Traditional Skills
- Clean & Green: 101 Hints and Tips for a More Eco-Friendly Home by Nancy Birtwhistle and Emma Mitchell
Bath & Beauty Products
A great place to start with greener products is the bathroom! There are many different eco-friendly products that you don’t have to break the bank with. Plus over time they will save you money as they are reusable. One of my most recent changes was converting to a washable fabric shower curtain liner, total game changer!
- Washable fabric shower curtain liner
- Bamboo toothbrush
- Reusable cotton rounds
- Reusable cotton swab
- Deodorant in non plastic container
Menstrual Products
While there are some great menstrual products on Amazon, I recommend you also check out packagefreeshop.com, plus they literally do not ship any plastic at all! However, here are some good options on the good ol’ Amazon too.
A word of caution, many non-organic and non-cotton pads and tampons can contain harmful chemicals. Here is a great resource that goes into more detail about the dangers and some helpful tips to look out for.(Madesafe.org)-you can search for safe products in a number of different categories!
- Organic cotton tampons
- Cotton reusable menstrual pads
Kitchen Products
Amazon also offers a number of great eco-friendly options for your kitchen too. Many of these are my cult favorites and I will never turn back.
Additionally, you may find just starting with one simple change will snowball into slowly integrating sustainable practices into your life little by little! Likewise, you may end up converting a friend or family member too!
An exciting recent purchase of mine from packagefreeshop. I purchased a cool charcoal water filter that goes right into a water pitcher, and I can honestly say my water has never tasted crisper! They last roughly four months as well, so super budget friendly. Definitely one of my cult favorites!
- Beeswax wraps
- Charcoal sticks (water filters on Amazon)
- Compost bin
- Reusable glass straw
- Silicone reusable storage bags
House & Home Products
There are some great additional eco-friendly options for your house and home!
- Wool dryer balls
- Compost Tumbler
What Eco-Friendly Products Will You Try Next?
Let me know what products you end up trying or perhaps what recommendations you may have. Maybe you have a tip or trick of repurposing an item in your own home? Are there any books, products, or other websites you recommend?
I would love to hear from you!
